2. Dehumidifiers - Why a dehumidifier? These centipedes like to live in areas that are wet, damp and humid. One of the commonly used insecticides is Drione which is a powder form. You can spread out these insecticides in places where they like hiding. Some of the places where you can use the insecticides are wall cracks, dark corners in the house, basement, and under furniture among others. You can use a residual spray insecticide such as Talstar or Demon WP to spray the yard, and garden. This will keep them away since the insecticide sprays kill house centipedes when they get into contact with it.
Let's go over some of the most common:
1. Boric Acid - Boric acid has been used for generations to get rid of all kinds of insects. This will starve them and thereby drive them away if not starve them to death.
The centipedes' favorable environment is damp. This is very effective especially when you are not certain on the type of insect that you are dealing with. You can use sticky insect traps which are readily available in the shops. These are placed in the breeding areas of the centipedes to capture them. Pesticides do not always work on them hence the need to use other means to drive them away even without killing them.
The exterminator will destroy whatever other unknown insect infestation that you might have.
As you can see, you have some very good options available to you. So you shouldn't have an excuse as to why these nasty little things are still in your home. But, this centipede, like all insects are resilient. They will find away in and out of your home. That's right house centipedes. They only come out twice a year and the reason that they come out well...we'll discuss that later. For now, let's talk about some of the best ways to kill them.
You can just use the old boot and squish them everytime you see one. But these things have a very high reproduction rate! For every 1 house centipede you see, there are at least 150 that you don't see! So you can squish all day long and you still won't make a dent in their population! But there are some other ways to kill them.
You could use boric acid. You can also use boric acid to dry up wet spots. Those same wet spots that the house centipede likes to hang out in.
Boric acid, unlike other insecticides, has to be prepared. I thought I was the only person with centipedes at home. This, as I learned later, was not true. The centipede is an elongated insect with a segmented body in which each segment has a pair of legs. Their bites are weak and though poisonous, can not pierce the skin. However, their presence in the house could be a nuisance hence the need for getting rid of centipedes. Pesticides do not always work on them hence the need to use other means to drive them away even without killing them.
This will starve them and thereby drive them away if not starve them to death.
The centipedes' favorable environment is damp. You should therefore keep your house as dry as possible to create unfavorable conditions for the survival of the centipedes.
